We provide educational assistance in the form of school supplies and classroom resources to the children and educators at The All Age School and The Green School in Harbour Island, Bahamas.
This assistance is funded by YOUR donations.
Most families on the island are economically disadvantaged and depend on tourism to make a living. Harbour Island is a very small island--3.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide and has a year round population of less than 2000 residents.
During a more recent visit and tour of the school, it was revealed that not only were the classrooms lacking in basic supplies and textbooks, but the foundation and structure of some of the school buildings and classrooms were badly compromised due to age. The power grid in the area is highly unreliable, and it was discovered that the school does not have access to running water during common and frequent rolling power-outages.
Additionally, and perhaps the most troubling piece of information gleaned from this tour, was that a good number of children are eating their first meal at lunchtime, and their parents rely on the school for providing that meal.
Our vision is to use this community outreach as an opportunity to show our appreciation to the Harbour Island community, as well as involve our kids in an incredible learning experience.
Our hope is to raise funds through donations from generous clients and business partners.
Our intent is to provide each classroom in both schools on Harbor Island with a full set of school supplies for each child, including a nutritious meal to start their day.
Long-term goals include replacing badly-worn playground equipment, cultivating a school garden project, and providing computers to children in need. Larger projects on the horizon would help to rebuild outdated buildings and classrooms, and providing a generator to run the well-pump so running water is always readily available.
